Researchers have found that Komodo dragons have an iron layer on their teeth, which keeps their teeth sharp and enables them to tear their prey’s flesh apart with ease. Scientists observed Komodo dragons’ teeth and found an orange tint on the tips. They further examined the teeth with the help of imaging techniques and discovered that the cutting edges of the teeth had high concentrations of iron. It is believed that this iron coating protects the creatures’ teeth from wearing out. It is an important discovery as this type of iron coating is not normally found on the teeth of reptiles. According to scientists, many dinosaurs possessed teeth similar to those of Komodo dragons and this finding will help them understand how dinosaurs fed on prey.
