A couple of Indian origin has earned membership in the New Zealand Order of Merit in recognition of their work to enhance technological partnerships between New Zealand and India and their contributions to information technology (IT). Lalita Kasanji and Sunit Prakash are the first individuals belonging to the Indian community to be given this honour for their work in IT. Establishing the New Zealand Centre for Digital Connections with India in 2023 was among their most noteworthy achievements. Through this effort, they sought to promote technological and digital partnerships between New Zealand and India. They also worked towards showcasing the importance of Indian IT professionals in New Zealand and developed programmes that would aid the growth of these individuals.
