31-year-old Laxmi Rajwade created history by becoming the youngest and only female minister to serve in the Chhattisgarh Cabinet, which is headed by Vishnu Deo Sai, the state’s chief minister. Rajwade, who is a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate, won the 2023 Chhattisgarh assembly elections in the Bhatgaon constituency against Parasnath Rajwade of the Indian National Congress (INC) with a margin of around 43,000 votes. Rajwade has been given charge of the Women and Child Development and Social Welfare departments of Chhattisgarh and her work will focus on the empowerment and well-being of women and children. She will support the implementation of numerous schemes including the Mahtari Vandana Yojana, which aims to economically empower married women across the state by providing them with 12,000 per year.
