Diwali is the festival of light, a celebration of the triumph of good over evil and a reminder that courage, righteousness and justice always prevail.

Diwali is the festival of light, a celebration of the triumph of good over evil and a reminder that courage, righteousness and justice always prevail. Diwali also keeps alive India’s rich traditions—the glow of diyas, colourful rangolis, delicious sweets and time spent with loved ones create a warm and joyful atmosphere.

Yet, not every tradition brings joy. Firecrackers, though fun for a moment, often cause more harm than happiness. They release harmful smoke that pollutes the air and worsens breathing problems like asthma and bronchitis. Their chemicals seep into soil and water, harming plants and animals. The loud explosions frighten birds, pets, young children and the elderly, sometimes even causing injuries.

So, how can we celebrate responsibly? By staying true to Diwali’s message of light and love. Instead of bursting crackers, we can light diyas, share sweets, create beautiful rangolis, spend time with family, help those in need and even show kindness to lost or frightened animals.

Diwali is not just about lighting lamps in our homes, but also about bringing brightness to the world around us. This year, let’s celebrate with joy, care and compassion and spread light not only in the night sky, but also in the lives of people, animals and our environment.
