RobinAge lists some steps you can take to help you achieve your goals while enjoying the present.

Rhea Hejmadi, a class 7 student at Finland International School, Thane, recently sent us this reflection:

“Just be you.” What an easy thing to say, yet a hard thing to do! In today’s world, it’s hard to be yourself. Everywhere you go, you usually have to do something to prove your worth, be it a school or college or even a friend circle. When do you get to be yourself? Sometimes, it is necessary to take a break and some time for yourself.

Nowadays, everyone is busy asking other people, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” Everywhere around people are pressurising you to think about your future and work towards it from an early age. Sometimes you get so engrossed in trying to be that future version of yourself that you forget what it’s like to be you. I am not saying don’t think about the future. I’m saying don’t get lost in the future. Don’t lose yourself.

RobinAge lists some steps you can take to help you achieve your goals while enjoying the present.

  • Be self-aware: You need to be aware of your strengths and weaknesses. Trying new activities will provide you with more clarity about who you are as a person. Once you are aware of who you are, you will never be affected by another person’s opinion.
  • Be clear about your goals: You need to be clear about what you want to achieve in life. Being clear about your goals, be it academic goals, financial goals or health-related goals, will allow you to come up with a plan to achieve them.
  • Take help: Reach out to your family, friends and loved ones in case you hit a roadblock. Your elders have valuable life experiences, which they can share with you and help you.
  • Enjoy the journey: Constantly worrying about the future will overwhelm you. It is important to focus on your life one day at a time and do your best daily. The small things you encounter along the journey will build your character and shape your personality.
