Researchers at the University of Virginia in the USA have created a new liquid cushioning technology that can be used in sports helmets, protective cushions in cars and wearable medical gadgets such as smartwatches. Researchers combined nanofoam, a material that is present in football helmets, with ionised water to develop a liquid cushion that can offer optimal protection when used in protective athletic gear and other safety equipment. This newly developed material is resilient enough to withstand multiple hits when used inside a helmet.
