A study conducted by researchers at the New York University College of Dentistry, USA, found that a liquid called silver diamine fluoride (SDF) effectively prevents cavities. The liquid, which can be applied to teeth with ease, is as efficient as dental sealants and can work as an alternative to them. The liquid proved to prevent cavities among elementary school children in New York City and also stopped existing cavities from aggravating. SDF is a cost-effective method for preventing dental cavities and can be an important part of dental programmes in schools.
