Madhavi Latha, a civil engineer from Andhra Pradesh, has played a vital role in the construction of the Chenab Bridge, which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in June. The bridge, the highest railway bridge in the world, rises 359mts above the Chenab River. Latha, who is a professor at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, served as a geotechnical consultant for the ambitious project. She braved rough environmental and climatic conditions, committing 17 years to the project. She is an alumnus of Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad, and the National Institute of Technology, Warangal. She has received numerous accolades, including the Karnataka Book of Records’ Woman Achiever Award, for her work.
