Researchers at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech), USA, have developed a tiny pill that can provide information about the gastrointestinal tract with ease. This capsule, called ‘PillTrek’, has a length of 25mm and a diameter of 7mm and can move seamlessly through the digestive system after being swallowed. This capsule comprises sensors that can monitor hormones, pH levels and other biomarkers, providing medical professionals with important information in real time. Researchers are working on further developments, including reducing the pill’s size.
