Scientists at Hong Kong Baptist University in Hong Kong have discovered a new species of box jellyfish that has 24 eyes! The species, discovered in a brackish water shrimp pond in the Mai Po Nature Reserve, was named Tripedalia maipoensis after the area where it was discovered. The species has a colourless, transparent, cube-shaped body that is about 1.5cms long and has 10cm-long tentacles. At the base of each tentacle is a ship-like structure that enables it to generate powerful thrusts, allowing it to swim faster than other jellyfish species.

Did You Know?
The tentacles of some box jellyfish species can reach a length of 10ft.
