New Plant Species Discovered in Kutch

A new saltwort species named Salsola oppositifolia Desfontania has been discovered by researchers from the Gujarat Ecological Education and Research Foundation.

A new saltwort species named Salsola oppositifolia Desfontania has been discovered by researchers from the Gujarat Ecological Education and Research Foundation. This species belongs to the Amaranthaceae family and was found at Khadir Bet island in Kutch, Gujarat. The species, which is normally found in northern Africa, Spain, Italy and the western Sahara, was discovered by researchers while they were studying the ecology of the Great Rann of Kutch (GRK) in 2021.
