A 120-year-old fountain called the Seth Samaladas Nasidas Pyau that stands at the Veermata Jijabai Bhosale Udyan, also known as the Byculla Zoo, was restored by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) heritage cell. The cell worked with an architectural firm called Vaastu Vidhaan Projects. This drinking water fountain was originally built of marble in 1903. Almost 50% of the pyau (water kiosk) was rebuilt using granite, grey stone and black stone. A koi pond was also added to it. The fountain was restored to preserve the cultural heritage of Mumbai. 21 similar fountains in the city will be restored.
