Popular radio presenter Ameen Sayani passed away in Mumbai on February 20 at the age of 91.

Popular radio presenter Ameen Sayani passed away in Mumbai on February 20 at the age of 91. Sayani was well-known for hosting ‘Binaca Geetmala’, a radio show that ran for over 40 years. The show began in 1952 and was initially broadcast on Radio Ceylon and then on Vividh Bharati of All India Radio (AIR). Sayani, who was born in 1932, hosted over 50,000 radio programmes during his career. The radio shows he hosted include ‘Saridon Ke Saathi’ and ‘Bournvita Quiz Contest’. He also worked as a voiceover artist for numerous jingles and appeared in several movies including ‘Boxer’ and ‘Bhoot Bungla’. Sayani was popular among radio listeners for his unique greeting style and presentation. He was honoured with the Padma Shri award in 2009.
