Ratan Tata, the former chairman of Tata Group, was awarded the Order of Australia, which is Australia’s highest civilian honour. The 85-year-old was honoured for his outstanding efforts to nurture bilateral relations between Australia and India in philanthropy and business. Tata Group’s Tata Consultancy Services employs approximately 17,000 Australians, which is the largest Australian workforce of any Indian company. Ratan Tata joined the Tata Group in 1962 and took charge as the company’s chairman in March 1991. He received the Padma Bhushan, India’s third-highest civilian honour, and the Padma Vibhushan, India’s second-highest civilian honour, in the years 2000 and 2008, respectively.
