A new fungus called Candida auris or C auris is spreading across the USA at a fast rate. According to a study, there was a 95% increase in the number of cases of infections in 2021. C auris is a severe threat to patients in hospitals or people with a weak immune system as it affects the individual’s bloodstream, organs and wounds. The fungus, which was first identified in Japan in 2009, has spread to most states in the USA and over 40 countries, making it a global threat. The fungus is resistant to most antifungal drugs, making its treatment challenging.
