  • A study involving science institutes, including the Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science (KRISS) in the Republic of Korea, has discovered an ice form that retains its solid structure despite being kept in environmental conditions where ice would usually melt.
  • This ice, called ‘Ice XXI’, stays frozen even when exposed to room temperature.
  • It maintains this form when subjected to immense pressure.
  • The discovery was made when researchers conducted an experiment in which they exposed water to high pressure to study how different conditions and temperatures affect the formation of ice.
