To enable comprehensive ocean studies, India intends to build a facility located 6,000mts underwater. This initiative will be headed by the National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT) and is expected to be the deepest underwater laboratory globally. Proposed to be constructed in the Indian Ocean, this facility will be equipped with advanced tools and communication technologies that will enable scientists to study the marine ecosystem closely while living underwater. Aligned with India’s vision for 2047, this project aims to strengthen the country’s ocean research expertise.
