Have you ever wondered how detectives catch criminals?
The answer is there-in fingerprints!
Each person has a special pattern on their fingers made of tiny lines called ridges. These form loops, whorls, and arches. “No two people have same fingerprints”. That’s why there are many useful methods of using fingerprints. When crime happens, forensic scientist look for fingerprints on everything surrounded by the crime scene. There is a special powder to make hidden prints visible, then they lift it with tape/take a photo.
The fingerprints are compared with those stored in a computer database. If they match the police can find who was there! Fingerprints stay the same for our whole life even when we grow or get a cut. ‘Fingerprints are keys to crime’. Fingerprints are used not only in crime investigation but in mobiles, passports, bank security and even attendance system.
Fun fact- Gorillas, chimpanzees and koalas have fingerprints.
