The Tears of A Mother

Debangshi Chakraborty, Class 9, Holy Child School, Guwahati

Imagine you are walking on a path under the hot blazing sun. You feel tired and helpless. The ground is cracked and dry and not a drop of water is in sight. All the animals are dying of thirst and hunger, all the trees are dead and crops are unable to grow as the ground has become extremely hard and dry, not at all suitable for growing crops. All around you animals, plants and humans are dying…

Relax! None of this has happened yet, but it surely will if we don’t start taking precautions to save our environment. Our environment is already in a critical condition and we should do our best to help the environment improve. Every year thousands and lakhs of humans and animals die due to lack of food or water. We all know the reason for this. But still why aren’t we stopping the exploitation of our surroundings?? This has to stop otherwise our future is dark extremely dark. Imagine a world without no food, no water, countries fighting each other for land and water resources, no air, no animals or birds, people going around wearing oxygen masks and humans and animals dying extremely malnourished and dehydrated. Yes, this would surely be hell on earth. So, we have to try to make our planet a heaven instead of a hell in the near future.

Since time immemorial, we have been exploiting nature. First, our ancestors discovered fire and learnt its wonders and disadvantages, then they learnt to cultivate land and grow crops, tame animals and look after them, construct buildings and so our civilisation continued evolving and it went on and on and on and…….. until today, when there is very little left for ourselves and our future generations. If we continue at this pace, then within the next decade or two we will be left with absolutely nothing. We should save some of our humanity and try to look after our environment which has looked after us for so many years. Our biggest problem is our greed and that we don’t know when to stop. Once we start, we keep on going until we realise that we have gone overboard and its too late. Instead of being so selfish and greedy, we should at least try to be kind and compassionate towards the future generations if not ourselves. Today we are facing so many environmental problems because of our excessive greed towards nature. If this continues, then a time will come when we will no longer be able to save ourselves from the harsh punishment of nature. And we ourselves would be responsible for this.

My message to all the people out there is that now it is high time to stop the over exploitation of nature because if we don’t hurry and start making amends from today then it would be too late and we would have to face the brunt of nature’s terrible anger. And believe me when I say terrible, because it would be something which we have never witnessed before. Remember nature is our mother, provider for all but if angered, her wrath would be terrible.

Somebody has rightly said, “There is enough for everybody’s need but not for someone’s greed”.
