Dr Preetam Sarkar, an associate professor at the National Institute of Technology Rourkela, Odisha, along with a team of researchers, has developed films (like cling film) that degrade in 60 days. These films have been created using seeds of litchi, jackfruit and jamun and can keep tomatoes and fruits such as bananas fresh for longer. These films serve as a substitute for plastic packaging that takes years to degrade. According to researchers, these biodegradable films can help reduce plastic waste.
