A teenager from Oregon, USA, named Isha Marla has devised a fabric that has qualities of conventional fabrics and is also environmentally friendly. Her fabric, known as AlginaFAB, is made with the help of elements derived from seaweed and has the potential to deal with textile waste, which is a grave concern. The fabric is capable of degrading without difficulty, with reduced impacts on the environment. Isha’s transformational innovation earned her a place among the finalists of the 2025 3M Young Scientist Challenge, a science competition for middle schoolers in USA.
