  • Amid the rise in rabies and dog bite cases, the Supreme Court (SC) had issued an order that all stray dogs in the Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR) be moved to shelters.
  • However, this triggered public protests, causing the SC to stay its order and make amendments considering both animal care and public safety.
  • As per modifications in the order, the dogs will undergo vaccination, sterilisation and deworming, following which they will be released in their original locations. However, this excludes aggressive dogs and those with rabies.
  • It also stated that feeding stray dogs on streets will be forbidden and special feeding spots for dogs will be set up.
