Cities Made of Fireflies

Om Mandloi, Class 9, Dhirubai Ambani International School, Mumbai

Once, there were stars above us.
Now, they live in the streets.
Fireflies trapped in glass towers,
we blink, neon souls
in electric veins of night.
Skyscrapers hum lullabies of metal,
dreams flicker on tired faces
like faulty bulbs.
Every window a pulse,
every light a story too brief to last.
We have built constellations of concrete,
stitched hope into billboards,
and called it progress.
Yet sometimes,
when a streetlight fails
and darkness hums in peace,
a single firefly escapes,
and the city remembers
how beautiful small light can be.
