Vaishali Rameshbabu and Anish Giri emerged victorious in the women’s and open sections of the FIDE Grand Swiss 2025 tournament, respectively.
With her victory, Rameshbabu became the first person to win the tournament for the second time consecutively in both sections. Rameshbabu and Giri’s victories also qualified them for the 2026 Candidates tournament.
Rameshbabu follows Koneru Humpy and Divya Deshmukh as the third Indian female player to earn a place in the tournament.
The tournament featured several Indian players, including Gukesh D, Vantika Agrawal and R Praggnanandhaa, reflecting the growth of chess expertise in the country.
