Researchers at King’s College London, UK, have devised a method to repair eroded enamel with the help of a material found in wool known as keratin. Their study revealed that a substance similar to enamel, the hard coating present on teeth, can be created when saliva comes in contact with keratin. The interaction between the minerals found in the saliva and the keratin leads to the formation of this substance, which can support the restoration of damaged enamel. As keratin is present in a variety of materials, including human nails and hair, it has the potential to be conveniently and safely used in future dental treatments.
