Archaeologists have found a board game in Naachtun, Guatemala, that was constructed in a unique manner. The game, known as Patolli, featured patol beans used as dice and spaces and has been known to archaeologists previously. However, the newly discovered board was built into the floor like a mosaic pattern, making it extraordinary. Archaeologists believe broken ceramicware was used to create the mosaic. The board is believed to have measured about 110cm in length and 78cm in width and its exceptional design will help archaeologists understand Patolli’s place in Mayan culture.
