India has got its first animal stem cell biobank, paving the way for improved veterinary treatment in the country.
The facility, located at the National Institute of Animal Biotechnology (NIAB), Hyderabad, was launched by Jitendra Singh, the union minister of state (independent charge) for science and technology, in August.
Through this initiative, stem cells of different types of animals will be preserved and maintained, which will enhance veterinary practices and improve the productivity of livestock.
NIAB has also created various other technologies, including effective testing techniques, to identify diseases in animals.
