  • India has got its first animal stem cell biobank, paving the way for improved veterinary treatment in the country.
  • The facility, located at the National Institute of Animal Biotechnology (NIAB), Hyderabad, was launched by Jitendra Singh, the union minister of state (independent charge) for science and technology, in August.
  • Through this initiative, stem cells of different types of animals will be preserved and maintained, which will enhance veterinary practices and improve the productivity of livestock.
  • NIAB has also created various other technologies, including effective testing techniques, to identify diseases in animals.
