Amla Ashok Ruia, a woman who is well-known for her social initiatives, was bestowed with the award for ‘Excellence in Rural Development’ at the Ramoji Excellence Awards 2025 that took place in November in Ramoji Film City, Hyderabad. These awards recognise the efforts of people from a variety of domains who work towards improving the nation. This was the first edition of the award, which has been launched in honour of Sri Ramoji Rao, a famous Indian media personality. Ruia was recognised for her water conservation endeavours in rural regions, reducing difficulties caused by water shortages and droughts. She has helped numerous villages by initiating water harvesting projects via the Aakar Charitable Trust, an organisation she founded, and is recognised as the ‘Water Mother’ for her efforts.
