Bristol Zoo Gardens, which was the fifth oldest zoo in the world, closed on September 3 after 186 years. It started welcoming visitors in 1836 and received more than 90 million visitors since. It housed over 7,000 animals and saved several species from becoming extinct through its conservation programmes. The zoo faced financial problems over the past few years as the number of visitors decreased during the COVID-19 pandemic.
