A team of Brazilian and British scientists has identified the world’s earliest known mammal with the help of fossil dental records. Known as Brasilodon quadrangularis, this creature resembled a shrew and was approximately 8 inches long. It is believed to have lived around 225 million years ago and is the oldest extinct vertebrate to possess two sets of teeth—milk teeth and permanent teeth. This creature was thought to be an advanced reptile, but after studying its teeth, scientists have confirmed that the Brasilodon quadrangularis was a mammal.
