  • The number of conjunctivitis cases was on the rise in Mumbai and Hyderabad recently.
  • Conjunctivitis, also called pink eye, is a condition in which the thin membrane that is located over the eyelid’s inner surface, covering the white part of the eye called the conjunctiva, gets swollen or infected.
  • The infection causes an itching sensation, redness of the eye, burning, blurry vision and teary eyes.
  • The most common causes of conjunctivitis are viruses, bacteria, irritants and allergens.
  • According to doctors, conjunctivitis can also be caused by variations in weather conditions, irregular rains, humidity and an increase in daytime temperature.
  • To prevent conjunctivitis, doctors suggest that people should wash their hands regularly and avoid touching their eyes. Since the disease is contagious, one should stay away from people who are already infected.
