Researchers conducted a study in Bihar to understand the effect of educating students on the credibility of news. Through the study called ‘Countering Misinformation Early: Evidence from a classroom-based Field Experiment in India’, they found that children who were educated on how to identify false information not only learnt how to detect fake information, but also shared their knowledge with their parents. More than 13,000 children studying in classes 8 to 12 from Bihar were part of this initiative and were taught to judge and distinguish between credible news and misinformation. According to experts, helping children to detect misinformation from a young age can prevent the spread of false information on a larger scale.
