Former Supreme Court Judge Manikrao Khanwilkar Appointed as Chairperson of Lokpal

Ajay Manikrao Khanwilkar, a former Supreme Court judge, has been appointed as the chairperson of Lokpal, an anti-corruption authority in India.

Ajay Manikrao Khanwilkar, a former Supreme Court judge, has been appointed as the chairperson of Lokpal, an anti-corruption authority in India. Khanwilkar was appointed to the post almost two years after the completion of the term of Lokpal’s previous chairperson in 2022. Khanwilkar, who was born in Pune, Maharashtra, enrolled as an advocate in 1982. He served in the Supreme Court for six years and retired in 2022. Before serving in the Supreme Court, Khanvilkar served as a judge of the Bombay High Court and held the post of the chief justice of the Himachal Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh high courts. He has been part of several crucial judgements and worked to promote judicial transparency during his career.
