Freedom Through My Eyes: Independence Day

Aarav Trivedi, Class 8, La Senda Global Academy, Abu Dhbai

Look at the flags that are flying high,
Feeling so proud to see our Tricolour shining high in the sky.
People singing and proudly saying,
Today, it’s Independence Day!!”
I clap, I smile, I spin around,
Feeling of joy, hearing the sound.
But I feel that freedom is much more to me.
It’s being who I am and meant to be.
The way I talk is not the same way you do,
I may not always look at you and connect.
Still, I have my dreams and thoughts to share,
My feelings, my love, and the way I care.
I wish for my own space to learn and grow, and not to be judged,
I wish to move at my own pace.
I wish I am allowed to make mistakes, to try, to play,
I wish to be accepted for who I am every day.
Allow me to explore, allow me to decide,
Do not try to hide me or push me aside.
For me, Freedom is to be seen,
As I am, not what the way “should have been.”
Well, on this “Independence Day,” Everyone do cheer out loud,
I (Aarav) deserve that freedom, too!!
Happy Independence Day!!
