Friendship. What exactly is it? Is it just a relation between two people or a platonic bond between two souls? The word is so simple, yet it holds a deep meaning to those who know how to cherish it. It is a very beautiful word, more beautiful than love, I believe. It is a relationship between two or more people, or rather, should I say souls? This word itself brings a sense of calm and peacefulness. It reminds me of fall when trees shed their leaves and winter is around the corner, of spring when the flowers bloom and the paddy fields are ready for cultivation, of winter when the landscape is covered in an ethereal white or when the weather is chilly and cold. It gives me the feeling of running through a vast field of numerous flowers during spring.
It reminds me of the snow-capped mountains and a picturesque painting of nature. The beauty of this relationship is that it is often quiet, not loud and when it breaks, it hurts more than a breakup. A person who finds true friendship is luckier than the person who has found true love. Friends will do anything for you; they will support you even when you are wrong. They are with you even in your darkest days. They will hold you when you will cry and comfort you even if you don’t ask for it. Friendships are beautiful because it shows that people can love each other without being romantically involved, as people think it is the only kind of love that exists. We tend to forget that platonic love, the more defined term, which is friendship, exists. It is rare to find true friendship and real friends are gems. You will come across all sorts of people claiming to be your friend but they will only ever use you. A true friend stays beside you even when you have nothing and when you have everything.
I believe in friendship above everything else. It is something which is very sacred, more sacred than love or anything else in this world. But the Universe plays a lot of jokes on me. Whenever I become close to a person or I finally open up to them, our friendship breaks or that person moves away and I never
see them again. After which, again I am left all alone. But what I am trying to say is, cherish this bond with your friends because it’s something very real and rare. Make sure you are always in touch no matter what. Yes, life does get busy. We have work and deadlines, but even in the middle of all these things, we should find time for ourselves and those people who made our lives a little bit brighter, a little bit happier and a little bit more colourful. On this bittersweet journey of life, even I have lost quite a few friendships and I know that more people will come and go but even in the middle of all these chaos and hurdles, I have found a true friend and I will cherish this bond forever.
My message is this, friendships may not seem to be very important but it actually is the most important thing in one’s life. Some people are lessons in our lives and some are with us forever and some are there for a really short time but they do teach a lot in that amount of time. What I am trying to say is, be grateful for your friends because many people don’t have what you have. They never experience true friendship. For me, friendship is another beautiful definition of life. When you have genuine friends, the world seems so much better and so much more beautiful. The sky seems to be littered with hundreds if not thousands of stars, the flowers smell nicer, the rain seems to be more calming than before and overall, you start to enjoy your life.
I would just like to conclude by saying that, friendship is like a thread, thin and fragile but powerful. If you don’t thread on it carefully, it will break but it can be tied back again before it breaks for the second time. This will keep on repeating until a point is reached when the thread can no longer be tied and that’s where the friendship ends forever. Some leave on a good note, whereas mostly, it is just a sudden void which cannot be filled no matter what. That is why thread lightly with care, cherish those who are with you now and forever. And yes, never forget to appreciate your friends for their advice and their presence in your life.
If there is a second life or a different universe out there, then I would always choose the same people as my friends in every single life and in every single universe and I will be wise enough to not make the same mistakes I made in this life and universe.
