India has reached a landmark by becoming the largest producer of rice in the world, generating a 150.18 million-tonne output during the year 2024-2025. With this, India has overtaken China, which has an output of 145.28 million tonnes.
Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced this during an event for the launch of new and enhanced crop varieties by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), which took place in New Delhi.
On the occasion, Chouhan underscored India’s significance as a rice exporter and the country’s advancements in the agricultural sector.
He also highlighted the importance of newly introduced crops and their potential to increase production.
