PostNord, the postal service provider of Denmark, discontinued the delivery of letters both domestically and internationally at the end of December 2025.
This move has made Denmark the first country to stop letter delivery globally, showcasing the effects of digitalisation.
The traditional letter service had been operational for four centuries; however, advancements in communication led to a decrease in its demand.
Though letter delivery has been discontinued, PostNord will continue delivering parcels, supporting e-commerce operations.
The use of smartphones, messaging applications and the internet has reduced demand for physical letters across the world.
