Researchers have demonstrated that the human brain gives out dim light that is imperceptible to the human eye. Produced due to metabolic functions, these bursts of light are called ultraweak photon emissions (UPEs). Though researchers were aware of UPEs, they were challenging to observe. Researchers carried out a study to gain a deeper understanding of these emissions and their potential to provide information about the brain by using special tools, including photodetectors. They found that an individual’s state of mind influenced the emissions. Researchers believe that UPEs could be used to study neurological problems and the brain.
