Luca Lobo Downer, a class 7 student at the Ardee School, Goa, participated in the Ironkids Goa event on November 8 along with his sister, Inca Lobo Downer, also a student of the same school. This running event featured children between six and 16 years of age. This non-competitive run promotes fitness and health in an enjoyable setting.
The children were grouped into different categories covering different distances based on their age. Luca participated in the 2km category. This marks Luca’s second year participating in the Ironkids event. Since he had an enjoyable experience last time, he decided to participate again this year. Each participant was given a bib, a T-shirt and snacks, followed by a medal at the end of the run. The event also included music and encouraged sportsmanship and interaction among children.
Luca said that he did stretches before the event to help him warm up and prepare physically. He shared that though he started the run with excitement, he grew tired as he ran. However, he motivated himself to continue and successfully completed the event. He also added that the presence of his friends made the run more memorable. Speaking about the event, he said, “I discovered that participating in such events and doing your best is what truly counts, regardless of whether one is a runner or not. Trying is the only way to know what you’re capable of. Go for it! It will be an enjoyable experience and you will feel proud of your efforts.”
Apart from running, Luca also engages in sports activities such as badminton and swimming.
