The Trinamool Congress government has appointed Nandini Chakravorty as the chief secretary of West Bengal. The 1994-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer has succeeded Manoj Pant, who held the post earlier, and has now been appointed as principal secretary to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. This appointment has made 56-year-old Chakravorty West Bengal’s first female chief secretary. Chakravorty, who is an alumna of Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, has served the government in various capacities. Among her notable roles were serving as the West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation’s (WBIDC) chief and West Bengal’s home secretary.
