To meet climate goals and reduce the country’s dependence on Russian oil and gas, the Netherlands will boost the building of offshore wind farms in the years to come. It plans to double the previously planned capacity by 2030. The government had announced in January 2022 that it would increase its expenditure on energy transition and set up a fund of 35 billion euros to meet its climate goals. The Netherlands has the highest greenhouse emissions per capita in the European Union. The generation of additional wind power would help industries switch to more sustainable energy sources.
