To increase awareness of sign language among people and help the hearing-impaired, Goa is working on including sign language in students’ school curriculum. The Goa government has been working towards raising awareness about sign language among the public so that those with complete hearing loss as well as those with hearing disabilities can communicate more easily with others and participate in daily activities. The introduction of Indian Sign Language (ISL) as an optional subject in the curriculum of schoolchildren was proposed by the Indian Sign Language Interpreters Association (ISLIA) to promote empathy among students, improve communication and make everyone feel valued.
