The Depletion of Mother Yamuna

Udeeta Borpujari, Class 8, Army Public School Jorhat, Assam

The depletion of the river Yamuna is a matter of great concern. We must ensure that we do our best in protecting her. This article is my humble contribution to save the river. I hope I can inspire you to contribute in a trivial way and also inspire others to do the same.

The Yamuna river is of great significance for all Indians. Many people worship her as it is said that lord Krishna used to enact His pastimes there. So, many devotees from around the globe respect and worship the river. In the old scriptures also, the Yamuna is mentioned as a holy and very auspicious river which is to be worshipped, protected and respected.

Secondly, the river provides water to thousands of households. This way as well she becomes a mother for us if not spiritually. She helps so many people by giving away so much fresh water. But we are mistreating her. Infact, the river supplies 70% of the water in Delhi. Even then she is tolerating and not punishing us. Such is the love of a mother for her children. We must do something, anything we are capable of to protect her existence.

We need to ignite love for her in our hearts and also help others love and respect her as their mother. This love for The Yamuna will help us in protecting her existence. We have to spread awareness about her importance and make everyone understand the necessity to restore this water body. We must understand that this is our moral duty to protect the river and Stand by her whenever one dares to abuse or disrespect her.
