Om Mandloi, Class 9, Dhirubai Ambani International School, Mumbai
Sometimes, I wonder if you know
how much you are the ground beneath my feet
how your love stays even when I don’t ask for it
when I’m too stubborn to say thank you
when I’m too lost in my own world
to notice you standing there.
I get so caught up in everything
the noise of school
the pressure to be someone I’m not
the endless scrolling
the arguments that flare like storms
between us over the smallest things
but you never leave
you just stay.
Your voice is not loud
but it’s steady
a constant rhythm in the chaos of my life
You don’t lecture me with grand speeches
you don’t have to
Your love seeps into me like rain into dry Earth
slow, silent, impossible to ignore.
I remember the nights
when I couldn’t sleep
and you sat by my bed
your hand resting softly on mine
just being there
without words
without judgment.
I don’t always show it
and maybe I’m too afraid you’ll see me as weak
but sometimes I break
I break from the pressure
the fear of not being enough
the weight of expectations
and you are the only one
who doesn’t flinch when I do.
You carry my mistakes like they are your own
you absorb my anger
my sadness
my silent cries
without complaint
Because that’s what love is for you, isn’t it?
An invisible sacrifice
a quiet strength that doesn’t ask for recognition.
When the world tells me I need to be harder
cooler
more distant
I remember you
how your kindness is fierce
how your patience is endless
how your eyes still see me
even when I try not to be seen.
I don’t always tell you
but I hope you know
your love is the only thing
that feels like home in this confusing place
You are the calm in my storm
the light when everything else goes dark
the reason I keep going
even when I don’t want to.
Maybe one day I’ll be brave enough
to tell you all of this
But for now
just know that even when I don’t say it
your love is everything I’ll ever need.
