Scientists have found radio signals emerging from beneath the icy surface of Antarctica, a phenomenon they find strange. These signals were detected with the help of the Antarctic Impulsive Transient Antenna (ANITA), an instrument that comprises a balloon soaring above Antarctica fitted with equipment. It is used to track radio emissions that emerge due to the interaction of cosmic rays or neutrinos in the atmosphere or ice. However, the signals detected appear to be coming from underneath the ice surface instead of space. Scientists believe they could be the result of undiscovered interactions or unknown particles and are still studying them.
