- To explore India’s geothermal potential, the National Geothermal Energy Policy 2025 has been launched by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE).
- Through this policy, the government aims to use geothermal energy effectively, working towards its clean energy objectives.
- The policy seeks to discover new geothermal sites and utilise geothermal energy for a variety of purposes, such as agriculture, food processing and the production of electricity.
- The policy promotes the employment of modern technology, research and partnerships within India and internationally. It also facilitates the reuse of abandoned oil wells for energy production.
