The world’s biggest space telescope, the James Webb Space Telescope took off on an Ariane rocket from the Kourou spaceport in French Guiana. This new telescope is 100 times more powerful than the Hubble Space Telescope, its predecessor. The James Webb Space Telescope has been designed by engineers working with the US, European and Canadian space agencies to look deeper into the universe. Scientists plan to use its more advanced capabilities to study exoplanets and their atmosphere. This study will help them see if the planets outside our solar system hold gases and this might hint at the presence of life on these planets.

Did You Know?
Most astronomers work remotely from the actual telescope and control it using computers.
