Mack Rutherford, a 17-year-old from Belgium, became the youngest person to fly around the world alone. Rutherford began his journey on March 23. He flew across 52 countries in five months and in August he landed in Sofia, Bulgaria, from where he had commenced his journey. Rutherford flew in a specially made ultralight Shark aircraft. He qualified for his pilot’s license at the age of 15, which made him the youngest pilot in the world at that point. Rutherford holds two Guinness World Records, one for being the youngest person to fly around the world alone and the other for being the youngest person to fly around the world alone in a microlight plane.
