To encourage students to honour West Bengal’s culture, the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education has directed that the state song be sung in all government-aided and government schools throughout West Bengal. Based on the board’s directive, students of secondary and upper primary schools have to sing ‘Banglar Mati, Banglar Jol’, which is West Bengal’s state song, during the morning assembly. The song, written by Rabindranath Tagore, is also expected to encourage solidarity among children.
